Cabinet in the Italian Extension (Room 22)

This room was once the cabinet of the ducal heiress Renata. Like the ducal heir’s cabinet underneath, it has a vaulted ceiling and is painted. The small fool’s masks on the ceiling link it with the Fool’s Staircase. On the ceiling, putti present the electoral Bavarian and Lorraine coat of arms as seen in the tapestries. They are a reference to Maximilian I and his wife Elisabeth. Maximilian and his second wife Maria Anna von Habsburg are shown in the portraits on the wall.
